One benefit of using the Gois Double Roller Purse Rings with Secure Push-Button Lock when a vessel has limited hydraulic power:
INCREASED PURSING SPEED
When a vessel has limited hydraulic power, friction between the purse cable and the purse rings, becomes that much more of a problem, causing the pursing speed to slow down.
Since the Gois Double Roller Purse Rings virtually eliminate friction between the purse cable and the purse rings, you will notice a significant increase in pursing speed while using the Gois purse rings. This increase in pursing speed is accomplished even though the Gois rings weigh more than the old-style rings without rollers.
One of the many fishermen/ owners that have experienced this effect is Avey Goncalves, owner of the M/v PACIFIC PRINCESS. The Pacific Princess was fishing in the Western Pacific with a big net and very heavy chain and bridles. The vessel had very limited hydraulic power and therefore was pursing very slowly.
The Captain of the vessel was complaining that the pursing speed was too slow, and he was asking for a very expensive upgrade of the hydraulic system. The owner decided to try 60 pieces of the Gois Roller purse rings: 30 rings on each end of the net.
The owner also went fishing to see if the Gois roller purse rings would increase the pursing speed. After about 10 sets they found that they could close the net about 10 minutes faster! Then, while still out at sea, the owner order another 60 pieces of Gois Roller Purse Rings to complete the entire net!
Even though the Gois Roller Purse rings weigh about 2.3 kg more than the rings the Pacific Princess was using, the pursing speed on the vessel increased by 10 minutes! This proves that the weight of the purse ring has very little to do with pursing speed. The much more important factor in pursing speed is the amount of friction between the purse cable and the purse ring.
